Given the range of features needing prioritisation in modern media networks, configuration can be challenging to say the least. Bandwidth and latency management, network scalability, and interoperability are just some of the key features in these systems, and while Milan-AVB technology simplifies configuration, there is still a need for control and monitoring of networks. Built on the Milan protocol, network platforms that manage these issues are now making their way to market – one of which being Milan Manager.
The Need for Milan Manager
As Milan-AVB networks continue to expand, flexibility and scalability have become essential, especially with high channel density applications, such as spatial sound, emerging as industry staples. However, this growth brings increased complexity in setting up and managing audio networks.
Depending on the scale of the occasion, a network could include dozens of active streams, featuring several Milan-certified devices from different manufacturers. Manually mapping these devices by using a range of different software applications can be challenging, potentially leading to synchronization issues, communication failures, and ultimately, an unsatisfactory experience for audiences.
Operators need a solution that allows real-time adjustments, remote monitoring, and automated troubleshooting of any Milan-AVB network, including Milan-certified devices from any manufacturer. Simplicity is key, and software-based Milan-AVB solutions like Milan Manager provide the answer.
Simplified Network Management
Milan Manager is a brand neutral, free-to-use software designed to simplify network setup and management. It automatically detects compatible devices within the network, streamlines configuration, and reduces setup errors. The software ensures seamless signal transmission within minimal manual intervention, improving efficiency and reliability.
In the unlikely event that any errors should occur, a clean tab-based interface displays real-time monitoring of all primary and secondary connections. Enhanced troubleshooting tools and automated fault detection also ensure network stability and uninterrupted operation.
The ability to link Milan-certified devices from different manufacturers enables seamless communication within the ecosystem, making interoperability and scalability more accessible. By integrating Milan Manager into their workflows, event organisers can optimize efficiency, enhance reliability, and maintain the high-quality audio-visual experiences that audiences expect.
Upgrades in Time for ISE
Eight months after its initial launch, Central Point Solutions unveiled an upgraded version, Milan Manager 2.0, at ISE 2025, introducing key improvements.
A dark mode was added alongside the main addition of an Offline mode into the software. Users will now be able to create or modify Milan network configurations without an active connection and push updates to the network when online.
Previously saved configurations can be loaded and edited, or new configurations can be created from scratch using an embedded certified database. This provides increased flexibility and efficiency for complex setups, enhancing user experience.
The launch of the new features sparked widespread industry interest at ISE 2025, solidifying Milan Manager’s reputation as a leading tool in Milan-AVB network management. This recognition was further cemented when Milan Manager 2.0 was acknowledged as an AV News Award finalist, while Milan received the ISE 2025 Best of Show Award in the Mix category, highlighting its overarching role in streamlining network operations and enhancing interoperability.
The Role of Avnu Alliance
Since its inception, the Avnu Alliance has laid the groundwork of the Milan protocol through its broader efforts in standardizing and promoting Milan-certified networked audio solutions. By establishing a range of robust certification programs, products in these networks are made compliant to IEEE standards, enabling interoperability. These certifications mean Milan Manager can function effectively, relying on a standardized, predictable environment where all Milan-certified devices can be discovered, monitored, and controlled without compatibility issues.
Already proving itself as a viable solution, Milan Manager supports Avnu – and its members – long-term mission to drive AVB adoption across the sector. With new features expected in 2025, Milan’s position as the market leader in device interoperability is set to continue. While details remain under wraps, Avnu’s ongoing innovations will continue to push Milan forward another key element of Milan’s viability,
Fostering Industry Collaboration
Milan Manager exemplifies the Avnu members commitment to advancing the AVB/TSN ecosystem. By simplifying configuration, enhancing interoperability, and introducing new functionalities like offline mode, Milan Manager empowers integrators and operators to focus on delivering exceptional AV experiences without the burden of complex setups.
As Milan technology evolves, collaboration among industry leaders will drive further innovation, shaping the future of professional Milan-AVB networking for years to come.
